AI-Empowered Doctors Will Excel - Highlights from Google Health's Annual Event

Apr 12, 2024

AI won't replace doctors, but doctors who use AI will replace those who don't!

I loved this phrase from Karen DeSalvo, Chief Health Officer from Google, mentioned at the annual Google Health event in New York, where her teams presented new technologies and partnerships applied to the healthcare market

We are in an amazing moment in the healthcare market, LLMs and AI models are advancing fast, and happy to see Google looking for an approach of partnerships to develop healthcare faster but also in a safe way, which was visible in the event, with the number of examples presented of applying some of these new technologies with big partners in US and a few other countries. Now it would be awesome to see these exciting technologies also applied for LATAM and Europe soon

A few highlights from the event:

▶️ AMIE + MedLM: I loved the updates from Greg Corrado, Head of Health AI from Google, where he showed the focus on creating LLMs with multimodal, long context windows and advanced reasoning capabilities. 30% of the world's data is healthcare info, so being able to analyze a large amount of data without losing quality is key here to keep the big picture.

▶️ Equitability on AI: Ivor Horn, MD, MPH, Chief Health Equity Officer, raised that we need to think about how to make AI reflect the diversity of people and experiences around the world, especially in healthcare there has historically been a lack of representation of marginalized populations in areas such as clinical trial research.

The event was also transmitted online and Google posted the main updates on their blog, I recommend the reading here - https://lnkd.in/ddff5iiE
